The Creation of my latest Derby Chic

First a few sketches on tracing paper, with
emphasis on a large and fancy derby hat.

Next, I copied articles and newspaper headlines from previous derby races.

Using Golden's Gel Medium, I collaged dozens of
vintage pages with derby quotes and derby related articles,
all over an 18" x 24" canvas.

Next, I used various models from magazines as my
inspiration for hat and face.

I polled my Facebook friends for suggestions on the
hat color decision. I needed help to decide if Derby
Chic's hat should be black, red or pink.
Most suggested hot pink.

Framing and finishing touches were added by cute guy in
Hobby Lobby's frame center.

What an interesting blog, introduced by a thought-provoking photo. The unusual wall painting of the dwellings is
also a strangely modern interpretation. Something like this hieroglyphic view of a park by Swiss painter Paul Klee, http://EN.WahooArt.com/A55A04/w.nsf/OPRA/

.

The image can be seen at wahooart.com who can supply you with a canvas print of it.
